Don’t Be THAT Person…

As with most things, there is a right way and a wrong way to use the gym. As an old, old man I have seen every fitness faux pas imaginable. Here I’ll give you a rundown on how to avoid some of the most common ways people can make gyms shit places to be.

Put Your Stuff Away

Health and safety. Being able to find the equipment you need. Not being a wankpuffin. These are three good reasons to put things back neatly, where they should go.

Respect Other Members

Just because your Instagram idol tells you that their #bootybuilding routine is like TOTALLY the only way to train, it doesn’t mean that everyone feels the same. People may have different opinions to you, that’s up to them. Get on with your own stuff.

Be Clean, You Jerk

If you make a mess at the gym, whether that be sweat or chalk (or something else) clear it up! You’re not a child! In addition, make sure your gym kit is clean. EVERYONE who has been in a gym has encountered a stinker, and trust me, nobody likes a stinker.

Do not live at the gym

Unless you’re a coach. In which case you probably do live at the gym. The gym should be a fun, welcoming place. However if you’re lounging around on equipment without really using it properly, sitting around gorming on social media, or generally just using the gym as a social club, ask yourself if your time could be better spent elsewhere.

Just ask

Please. This is a big one. If you don’t know how to do something, are unsure about a technique or have a burning question that Google simply cannot answer, just ask a coach (it’s 42 by the way). Not ALL coaches are cynical, sarcastic twats. I mean, most are, but they’ll still answer your questions and show you how to squat properly!
